  >  Blog Post   >  Redefining Beauty: Wanderlust is the New Picture-Perfect Pretty

She’s the woman you invite somewhere that will say yes without blinking an eye.

Unless of course, she’s already en route to another adventure. She’s the woman who has managed to match business and passion, facing and conquering real-life fears on the regular. She’s the woman well-traveled enough to treat everyone with kindness and respect.  But presumably did so before her first journey ever began.

She’s the woman who isn’t always entirely fearless, but open to staring her fears in the face and conquering them.  She’s the woman who shares the wanderlust spirit, even when she’s at home base and not traveling anywhere.  But who are we joking — she is going everywhere, both physically and figuratively.  She’s compassionate, strong-willed, polite, yet unconventional. Her reactions are big because her feelings are big. She’s brave, and resourceful, and redefines pretty with an audacious and open heart.

In lieu of our most recent adventure, we’d like to celebrate not only women pushing the boundaries of business, but also those of media, culture, and life in general.

You see, these female bloggers are doing so much more than just traveling the world, “living the dream”.  They’re making differences, helping others less fortunate, living their best lives, and creating memories, as well as lifelong friendships in the process.

I cringe when I think of just how much time and money the media wastes glossing over our external shells trying to convince us our “imperfections” are still beautiful.  The more they can convince us that we’re riddled with flaws, the more they’ll sell to us.  But they’ll tell us all the while we’re still “beautiful”.  It’s absolutely absurd.  We’re subconsciously taught to fear our natural state, to hate our natural bodies, and to incessantly seek out our defects.  Hello, weren’t we taught at a very young age our self-worth should come from what’s on our insides?  Don’t we know that focusing on the frivolity of our appearances and exerting attention towards the superficial doesn’t actually afford us anything?

Not that I’m putting myself on a pedestal because I promise you, I surely have a multitude of imperfections, but I’ve just never worried I’m too tall, too thin, too whatever, to be beautiful. I like to think my bubbly personality, “ride or die” loyalty, perpetual positivity, and a heart bigger than my body are what truly makes me attractive.  I don’t feel intimidated by other women.  I’m honestly inspired by them.  Women who climb mountains, jump out of airplanes, start businesses, and are billboard examples of how to treat others… What a waste it would be to envy them rather than be inspired.

I feel pretty when I think about who I am and what I’ve done, not what I look like.  I am not sure what makes you feel “pretty,” but when I look at these women, I think, pretty fucking awesome.

Let’s raise our imaginary internet glasses for a toast.  Cheers to some of our favorite like-minded alpha females.  And strictly as an opinion from fellow female travelers, our top three favorite female travel bloggers:

Dana from Wandering Donut

Meet Dana, the “perfectly imperfect” 21-year-old Australian travel blogger we just can’t get enough of!  With so many basic travel bloggers popping up these days, we truly admire Dana for being unconventional, breaking the female travel blogger stereotype, and being genuine, real, and relatable.  Dana had travel ingrained in her from a very young age.  She has been blogging regularly as “Wandering Donut” for the past four years, and her incurable travel bug has taken her to over 26 countries around the globe.  We love her hilarious honesty, and the sincere integrity she possesses. Thank you, Dana, for being unapologetically yourself, and for reminding us to never let the opinions of others hold us back from being exactly who we are.  You make us proud to share this “female blogger space” with you.  We’re excited to continue to watch you grow and evolve, and anxious to see what’s in store for the future.  Cheers girl!

Kristin from Be My Travel Muse

Kristin, the native Southern Californian, published author of two books, creator of blog and travel brand, Be My Travel Muse, and all-around badass solo female travel blogger has influenced us since day one. She too worked a discontented corporate job until she was pushed to make a change and choose to leave it all behind to pursue her dreams and a life full of travel. Kristin has been wandering the globe since 2012 and has motivated us with her tips and guides to ditch the ordinary touristy activities and immerse ourselves in local culture to have a truly unique experience. Like with us, nobody around Kristin understood. But her desire for a lifetime of adventures kept her fantasies alive. And seven years later, she’s still traveling, living her dream. We can’t thank you enough Kristin for teaching us that the juice absolutely is worth the squeeze and that we too can be present in our lives, existing exactly how we want.

Dani from Globe Trotter Girls

Globe Trotter Girls began in 2010 with the dynamic duo, Dani and Jessica.  They spent the following four years traveling the world as a couple before going their separate ways in 2014.  Over the years, Dani has molded Globe Trotter Girls with a focus on independent female travelers who are curious about the world around them.  She excels in genuinely inspiring curiosity about travel and in providing tips and tools on what she has learned on her journey no matter how good, bad, or ugly.  We cannot adore Dani enough in her ability to unknowingly urge us to follow our passion for travel, no matter where it might lead. She lives by the motto “One globe.  No regrets.” and we couldn’t agree with her more. Thank you, Dani, for continuously informing and inspiring us to push through every obstacle we encounter in order to achieve our dreams. You rock!

Who do you invite that’s always down?  Comment, like, or share this with your ride or die travel buddies.  And, as the saying goes, “Here’s to the strong women.  May we know them, may we be them, may we raise them.”

Hey ya’ll! Thanks for dropping by to check out our little slice of the internet pie. I’m Krystina! I’m a devoted yoga pants enthusiast. Avid traveler. Extroverted introvert. Successfully turning ideas into reality since 1985. I’ll be the first to admit I’m a self-proclaimed, serial entrepreneur. Identifying needs and filling them daily. I’m a dog mom of one (a Belgian Malinois named Koda), chicken wing connoisseur, and wheatgrass addict. I’m a firm believer that consuming celery juice every morning allows for fruit juice indulgence (a.k.a wine) every evening. Bottoms up! :)
